One-time initiation fee - There is a fee of $5 for all first-time members. If you have been a member in the past, the fee does not apply. AutopatchOnce your membership has been accepted, we will give you a card with autopatch access instructions. The autopatch includes access to local numbers, 911, and speed-dialing. The 3-minute timeout timer on the repeater applies. Web SiteWe have a well-featured and useful Amateur Radio web site. All members and interested non-members are encouraged to use it. The site includes club info, maps to meetings, weather and emergency links, club activities, photos, achievements, Tech and General exam training, a large technical section and much more. Weekly NetThe club meets each Monday night at 8 PM on the 147.220 + No Tone K5EPH repeater. It is an open, directed net, and members and visitors are welcome. The net includes traffic, weather net practice (sometimes), ARRL Audio News, Trading Post, and Technical Questions. Monday BreakfastThose who can, meet Monday mornings at 8-ish for breakfast and fellowship at the Athens Whataburger. Monitor the repeater from 7:30 AM onwards. This is where all the world's problems are solved - please come and help with this massive task… Monthly DinnerWe eat and fellowship on the First Thursday of Each Month, at 6 PM. See the web site for location and map, or listen to the weekly net on Monday nights for announcements. Weather and Emergency ActivitiesWe activate a Skywarn weather net when severe weather approaches. You are welcome to obtain the certification and participate. See the web site, or ask, for Skywarn training schedules (classes from Jan-Apr). We also have an Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) group. To apply, obtain the ARES application form. There is no fee. Field Day and SETWe have a diversified and exciting Field Day operation each year. Plan on dragging out all your stuff, spending the night, and having a great time! We are also discussing the implementation of the annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET) activity for our ARES members. Welcome to the Athens Amateur Radio Club! |
